My name is Valerie and I feel very lucky to be part of the small amount of people who got the chance to participate in the World Rep program.  Studying at the Griffith University in the Gold Coast is a great way to meet new people and learn about different cultures all over the world. It gives me as a journalist the opportunity to increase my research and academic skills together with focusing on a topic that I find very interesting: The representation of refugees in the Australian news media. I am also lucky enough to combine these research with making my own first documentary.

"Naturally, going halfway around the world as an exchange student is more than just education. And I want the full experience of an Australian university student. To the degree that my education allows it, I intend to immerse myself fully in the local community. And I expect to learn just as much about Australia playing football with the Griffith Hawks, going out with friends or joining the chess club as I do during the courses. And I reckon it will be easier for me to share my experiences from Denmark in those settings as well. That is why I am committed to getting the full experience, at least as full as my studies allow."

Simon will be joining the Bachelor of Journalism with Honours program at Griffith University in 2016.
