Kasun Ubayasiri is a Journalism Lecturer in the School of Humanities at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. He specialises in media, insurgency and political violence. He is a former journalist from Sri Lanka who covered the armed conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam for a number of years, which has informed his current research interests in ethno-nationalist media and media coverage of conflict. His professional work as a journalist in Australia included rural and regional reporting on a range of issues including sustainable farming and agri-politics. He teaches into the Griffith journalism program in the areas of journalistic ethics, practice and journalism investigative methods. He is currently convenor of Griffith University's Bachelor of Journalism at the Nathan campus, in Brisbane.
